How to Take Good Care of Your Eyeglasses?

Specs, otherwise known as spectacles or eyeglasses, are very important for people who have defects in their visions. These items are expensive and taking good care of them is very crucial. If specs are not being handled correctly, it will be damaged. Damaged specs cannot be used again. Thus, you will be forced to invest money in buying a new one.

There are a lot of things you need to consider in taking good care of your specs. No matter how expensive and how durable it is when you first bought it, it will not last longer if it is being mismanaged. Here are some tips on how to handle your specs:

1. When taking off your eyeglasses, use both hands. In taking off, hold the legs of the glasses softly to uphold balance.  In placing the specs, the glass lens must be put upright or face up.

2. Hold the bar of the eyeglasses when you wipe the lens. Holding the bar of the specs will prevent the screws from loosening. When screws are loosened, this will make the frame out of shape.

3. Don’t wipe when lenses are dry.

4. In wiping lens, use a smooth, clean, and lint-free cloth or tissues. Don’t use rough clothes and towel because these might scratched the lens. You can go to various optical shops and ask for special lens cleaner. Remember, the cleaners must be compatible with the type of spectacle lens. Also, don’t ever attempt to use any variety of detergents or soap on lenses which have light reflection coatings because this can cause damages.

5.  In drying recently cleaned spectacle lenses, use your two hands in holding the rims of the lens. You can use a special cloth in drying the lens.

6. Do not wear your specs when you are sleeping. Put it in a spectacle case.

7. Avoid the contact of sweat, steam, smoke, and cosmetics from your spectacles. These items can have strong acids that can destroy frame plating and lens coating.

8. Never place your spectacles too long in areas which are too hot or too cold. This will break the lens.

9. Monitor the screws of your specs. Check whether the screws are loosened or tightened.

10. Avoid placing your spectacles on areas which can be reached by children.

The best and important thing to do is to ask recommendations from your optometrist on the proper items in cleaning your spectacles. Take good care of your specs because your vision depends on it.
